Anyone caught the pilot yet? How was it?

Expecting my copy to arrive in the next day or two...

I saw it the other night and thought it showed a lot of promise. My (spoiler-laden) thoughts:

1) It seemed like most of the "plot" that had been hinted at in the trailers takes place in the first 15 minutes. I was under the impression that it would slowly build up to the "explosive" event that sets the main story arcs in motion, but that event actually happens very early in the pilot.

2) I also thought that it would be a while before we actually got to see a Cylon... expected the show to take its time putting them through the "development" process. Did not expect that payoff to happen in the pilot.

3) A lot of the characters that I expected to be recurring characters seemed to vanish very early in the show. So now I'm at a loss to say for sure who the main characters of the series will be (there are 6 obvious ones, but beyond that, who knows?).

4) I really like the way life in the Colonies has been set up -- the racial, religious, cultural, and even stylistic differences between the Colonies is fascinating. From BSG we already know a bit about Caprica, Tauron, Gemenon, and Sagittaron, but there's a LOT of untapped potential here. With 12 colonies to play with, they can explore a lot of ground in the new series. I hope they go all out -- I want to know what people are like on Virgon and Scorpia and all the other colonies.

5) Great cast. Esai Morales really puts an interesting spin on Joseph Adama. The character has a long path ahead of him to get from the man we see in the pilot to becoming the man remembered in BSG by Bill, Lee, and Romo.

Must watch it again and let this all set in.

I absolutely loved it and really hope it doesn't stray *too* much into metaphysical stuff, like BSG did. I know some people were into that, but I wasn't crazy about the appearance of spiritual beings, angels or whatever they were.

Like you said, the tapestry they're weaving about the cultural and racial differences is great so far. I suspect Joseph will be very pivotal, as you said, and I also didn't expect Bill to be so old in this!

Other points of interest for me:

1) Loved the old-school Cylon voice and was just waiting for the "by your command," which did not disappoint.

2) Glad to see there is a reason for them to build the Cylons as big monsters -- they're for a defense contract, not for cleaning the house. We were questioning that before, lol.

3) Always, and I mean, always make a backup of your daughter's soul before you upload it into a cybernetic killing machine. Surely he had a flash drive lying around the house? I mean, he's a tech magnate, right? Yeesh! Why didn't he plan for that contingency? D'oh!

4) Those holobands must be insanely expensive or else everyone would have one and most people would be in the sex/drug den. I mean, they aren't that frakking enlightened on Caprica. It wouldn't just be a "teenage thing." They're human. It's like Star Trek: TNG. I never understood why Barclay was the only one addicted to the holodeck.

That's all I have for now. May watch it again for some more details, but I can't wait for the series!

There is a lot of scope there for an amazing TV series!
I hope its given a chance to run.

Glad to hear you liked it, too! I am so anxious for the show to premiere on television so more people will check it out. I don't think many people bought the pilot who weren't die-hard BSG fans. I anticipate a lot of positive feedback next year, though!

I'm looking forward to it! The show premieres in the US on Syfy on Jan. 22. Not sure what the premiere dates will be abroad, but I do know Sky1 will broadcast the show in the UK and Space Channel will pick it up in Canada. Do you find this valuable?

you can watch the pilot here
http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi1034552345/
I just saw it recently and thought it was good, zoe kinda stole the show then she gets killed, but will still be in the show.
it was interesting to see the first cylon, but I too thought that would come later.
I will be watching when it comes on here in usa jan 22 for pilot again then jan 29 for the first season ep.
I dont know how good it will be but should be interesting
@ amy c good points, I thought it was stupid about no backup for a tech person??
that was a little lame.
