The Adama family originated on the colony of Tauron, where brothers Joseph and Sam Adama were raised. Their parents were killed in a Tauron Uprising, and Joseph later emigrated to Caprica, where he changed his name to "Adams" to avoid the anti-Tauron prejudice prevalent in Caprican society. Joseph Adams became a prominent attorney on Caprica, known for his ties to the mafia; his brother Sam became an enforcer in the powerful mafia on Tauron.
Joseph Adams eventually changed his name back to "Adama" – the name under which his legal texts were published, and the name used by his son William, and grandsons Lee and Zak. He also eventually became less known as a mob lawyer and better known as a civil liberties attourney.
William Adama joined the military, served in the Cylon War, and was in command of the Battlestar Galactica at the time of the Cylon Holocaust. Lee Adama, like his father, became a military pilot, but also showed a strong interest in politics and the law, largely due to the influence of his grandfather. |
