58 years before the fall of the Twelve Colonies, the planet Caprica is the seat of Colonial government and culture. The seemingly idyllic society is beginning to feel the strain of rapid technological advances, religious extremism, government corruption, and a powerful underworld.

Caprica Revelations

Caprica - Life in the Colonies

  • Caprica Flag
  • A great deal of bigotry towards other colonies (especially Tauron) permeates life on Caprica.

  • There are no flowers growing anywhere on the planet Tauron.

  • Monotheism is considered a blasphemous and extremist (even dangerous) practice in the polytheistic Colonial society.

  • The influence of the Tauron halafa (mafia) extends into the upper levels of the Caprican government.

Caprica Trivia

  • Religious symbolsSister Clarice's act of forming an infinity symbol out of a ring of water on her desk is a reference to the early days Christianity, when persecuted Christians secretly identified one another by drawing half a fish symbol in the dirt (if the other person completed the symbol, they each knew the other was a also Christian).

  • Caprica City
  • Much of Caprica City is recognizable as Vancouver, British Columbia, where the series is filmed.

Caprica - Battlestar Galactica Connections

  • William Adama
  • Caprica takes place 58 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, when William Adama was 11 years old (making Commander Adama 69 at the time of the Cylon Holocaust).

  • William and Lee Adama of Battlestar Galactica claim Caprica as their home. In the Caprica pilot, however, it is revealed that their family actually comes from the colony of Tauron.

Caprica - Burning Questions

  • In BSG, an adult William Adama says, "You cannot play God, then wash your hands of the things that you've created." Does he know about his father's (and sister's) role in the creation of the Cylons?
